After a small renovation, I spliced the water pipes in the floor. (Not so good, I know. But the alternative was to tear up the floor in several rooms or to pull up the pipes and splice above the floor, which wouldn't have been good either.)

Now I'm planning to build a box with a tight roof/sides around the joints so that any leakage ends up in the crawl space and not in the joists, plus install a moisture sensor.

My idea was to build a plywood box and coat it with fiberglass and polyester. But maybe there's a better material to coat it with? (Fiberglass is quite stiff, something more rubber-like might be better around the pipe penetrations.)
 
Have done a similar solution and used a gummitätskikt for wet rooms that you roll on, very convenient.

I also want to fix a tight bottom in a cable duct. Thinking about rubber compound or plastic coating. The rubber compound is very expensive (well, 300:-) while a bit of polyester and fiberglass costs around a hundred and I can use it for other things too. Is polyester+fiberglass+polyester enough or do I need to build more layers? Does it need to be topcoated? If you go for the rubber compound, can it withstand being the surface layer, meaning it won't get damaged by being exposed to the air? Normally it's quite embedded...
 
Double layers of age-resistant plastic glued with silicone likely work as well.

Is the rubber membrane thick and tough enough at joints and around pipes? When you use it in wet rooms, you usually reinforce the membrane there.
 
Now, this construction doesn't need to be as tight as a wet room since it only needs to seal in the event of a leakage at the connection; the construction, no matter how it's done, will not be approved according to säker vatten.

What? Of course, it meets the requirements for safe water if you have a sealed bottom that goes 5cm up the edges and it drains into a space where any water is easily detected.
 
I imagine that one must use a junction box that is approved for the purpose

No, it is not like that. It should be a waterproof bottom that goes up 5cm and has drainage out. There is no S or CE marking on waterproof bottoms :wow:
 
Then should the waterproof bottom be constructed as a wet area or?

As long as it meets the requirement of a waterproof bottom that extends 5cm up the walls and tightly connects to them, and has drainage where leaks can be easily detected, there are no other requirements for the execution.
