I closed off a door between two rooms. I screwed drywall sheets into the door frame. I have applied joint compound and fiberglass tape at the seam on three occasions, but it keeps cracking. Maybe because I have the wrong tape technique or because the movements in the wall are too large - either in the whole house or the door frame that remains in the wall.

How much can wood movement affect this? I have an idea to fill the door frame's cavity with Leca balls and concrete to maybe stabilize the studs a bit, but that's assuming the stud otherwise fits tightly against the remaining plastered wall. Well, I think it might be best to start over and remove the frame, and instead brick up the opening with lightweight concrete blocks, or use metal studs and drywall. Or maybe just a polystyrene board that I can plaster over.

What do you think?

The best is to stud out and put new drywall over the entire wall.
