The lock in an interior door was loose and I removed the lock to see what it looked like inside. The wood was crumbly.
I have removed quite a bit of crumbly wood. My question is what type of rot has affected the door and if it will spread if I don't remove all the bad wood?

Wood only rots if it is damp, so consider why/how the door has been exposed to moisture. It's a bit strange if it’s an interior door that has always been an interior door. Additionally, it only rots with prolonged dampness that doesn't have time to dry out; occasional wetting doesn't result in rotten wood.
Similarly, most pests require damp wood to thrive; very few cause damage to dry wood.
If it is an old door reused from another location, the damage might be old. Rot does not spread unless moisture returns. But you should try to replace all damaged wood, if only to ensure your lock stays secure.

If there is a large temperature difference between one side of the door and the other, you could theoretically have had condensation in the lock, especially because there is metal as well. Air with a higher temperature can carry more moisture, which then condenses when the air cools.
Is it possible that it is an interior door for an exterior door/double door? In the past, there used to be two doors for the front door.
