I have moved from a wooden house to an apartment built in the 60s. Everything is concrete and it's a bit new for me.
In connection with renovation, all moldings must be replaced, i.e., mostly baseboards and casings. The baseboards are attached solely to concrete and the casings to concrete at one edge and a door frame at the other edge.
I am quite picky when it comes to moldings. I don't want any visible nail holes, etc., but want to fill them and paint over if they are nailed or screwed.
1) Which mounting method is preferred?
2) Can you (should you avoid) glue? If so, which glue (PL400, MS-polymer, assembly adhesive...)?
I have thought about lowering the ceiling in the hallway and putting up plasterboard to be able to install electrical, e.g., for spotlights. I am thinking of placing a wooden frame 45x45 in the (concrete) ceiling, then space with 28x70 and then plasterboard.
3) It is difficult to drill and screw into the ceiling. Suggestions on work method? For example:
a) cut the studs
b) pre-drill with a wood bit in the studs
c) hold the stud against the ceiling and drill with a concrete bit into the pre-drilled hole so that you get a mark in the ceiling where you should drill for the plug
d) hold the stud completely still so it doesn't move and drill for a mark for the next hole (this seems difficult)
e) drill and plug and hope the plug ends up just right
f) screw the studs in place
Or are there simpler ways? What dimension do I need for the hole/plug do you think?
New door frames are to be installed in the door openings that consist of concrete. In some openings, there is some wood embedded in the concrete that looks a bit tempting to attach the frames to.
4) What kind of wood is that?
5) Can you attach the door to that wood or is it recommended to drill, plug, and drive frame screws into the plug?
I can provide photographs if needed.
