Hello

I was wondering if anyone has experience with window replacement in a Hultfredshus.
I am in the process of replacing a window (20x16), and when I started removing the trim, I noticed that the vertical "studs" in the window frame continue up to a header under the top plate. This header rests solely on the vertical "stud" of the window frame. This means that the window frame is part of the load-bearing structure.
I "borrowed" the neighbor's carpenter to take a look at this, and he hadn't seen anything like it before.
It seems a bit strange that they have integrated the frame into the load-bearing construction; has anyone experienced anything similar?

It is common to have that type of construction. I myself live in a hultfredshus where patio doors and living room windows are of the same construction. You need to make the new window load-bearing. Remove the sash or remove the glass if it is a fixed window, place the saw on a side piece and saw off the frame. If it's clamping too much, you need to prop it up before you cut off more of the old window. Once you've installed the new window, you need to knock in blocks and make the new window load-bearing again.

What I did was to install a load-bearing beam, a 45x195 against the hammarband, this "beam" was extended to the studs next to the window on both sides. Then I installed the window. I lose a little insulation where the stud is placed, but better that than putting stress on the window.
