In a week we will get the key to our new condominium. There we have a wall between the living room and the kitchen with a standard door opening with an 80cm inner measurement. We would like to make an opening of about 100-120cm. I don't know if the wall is load-bearing or not yet, or what material it is. But I wanted to ask if there are any standards for different materials when making these kinds of alterations if the wall is load-bearing. The ceiling height is around 2.70m and we plan to keep the door opening height (around 2.20m?), so about 50cm would still remain above the door opening. Would this alteration be possible even if the wall is load-bearing? If it is load-bearing, I assume it is made of brick or concrete, or am I completely off track?

Even if the wall is load-bearing, you have plenty of space for a support beam, and with an opening of up to 120 cm, it doesn't require a large beam to carry the load.
If it is load-bearing, it can just as well be made of wood as concrete/masonry.
The simplest way is to remove the door and then try to see how the wall is constructed. Otherwise, you have to ask the association for blueprints; it usually requires the association's permission if you are going to make changes to load-bearing walls.

Thank you so much for the help. Just double-checking to make sure I understand everything correctly. If there is around 50cm of concrete over the door opening, it should be sufficient to support over a door opening of Max 120cm if the wall is load-bearing?
