Who installs steel beams / headers?
Hello,
I read a construction drawing where it was indicated that a steel beam should replace the existing ridge beam. The steel beam, in turn, should rest on two steel columns landing on a concrete floor slab. The ridge beam is approximately 5.5 meters long.
What types of firms do this kind of work? What can you expect in terms of hourly rate and time required for this type of work?
Building a frame with steel beams in a stairway opening approximately 1.5 x 0.75 meters, is it complex? What might it cost, including hole cutting and assembly?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
R H

There are so-called byggsmides firms that are skilled at such jobs; check locally and there are surely several that can answer your questions.
Thank you for the quick response!
What might this cost if it runs completely without issues and there are no complicating factors? I am trying to set a rough budget for this, am I way off if I budget the following:
Ridge beam price including material and crane lift: 7500 (beam) + 10,000 (crane truck) + 10,000 (labor) = 27,500 including VAT.
Steel frame price including hole cutting: 7500 (beams) + 10,000 (labor) = 17,500 including VAT
Best regards,

Hard to say without seeing the conditions, but you're probably in the ballpark.Richard_Hjort said:Thanks for the quick response!

What complicates such jobs is if you can't get all the way to the house with a normal crane truck.
But can't everything be lifted at once when the crane is already on site?
