Hi, I'm looking to replace some parts in an IKEA kitchen. I'm currently searching for a large MDF board for the back of the kitchen island. Unfortunately, IKEA doesn't sell panels large enough to use a whole board, so you have to piece together several. After having our kitchen for about 10 years, I've noticed that the MDF not bought from IKEA yellows, while IKEA's panels/frames retain their white color better. Does anyone know where to buy MDF that doesn't yellow? Yes, I know it can be painted/spray-lacquered, but I was hoping to avoid that.

  • White MDF panels on the back of a kitchen island with a grey countertop above and dark tiled flooring below.
  • Close-up of white IKEA kitchen cabinet showing corner detail and paneling.
The most common is usually laminated chipboard.. not mdf

Purchased painted MDF, is that available?
Isn't it a melamine board (with particle board as base) you've used?

Not me who bought it but our builder. Maybe, as you say, you can't buy laminated MDF in larger sheets. However, I think IKEA has laminated MDF for larger cover panels and not chipboard. The question is what to have under the kitchen island if one desires one sheet instead of several if there is a requirement that it does not yellow over time.
