Hello!
Due to a mental slip and a hasty rescheduling, we ended up with an extra floor drain in our slab (garage/workshop). Instead of having a washbasin and washing machine there, it will now be a workbench and "rough office" with space for a soldering station, electronics, a mini-workshop, and similar.
The extra floor drain was not really a problem (which is why we left it when we moved the washbasin elsewhere), but now it's a bit in the way since I want a completely flat floor, so you can roll an office chair or similar over it.
So the floor drain has to go! However, I have very little knowledge about concrete/cement (I hired a company to cast the slab).
What is the difference between leveling compound and "floor leveling compound"? Or is it the same thing?
Does it come in different colors? The tiler who used leveling compound to slope the bathroom floor had a leveling compound that was quite dark in color. I want the repair to blend into the floor (visible concrete floor).
It's a small local slope in the slab, about 10-20cm in radius around the drain. This means the leveling compound gets thinner towards the edges. Will it hold over time, or is it better if I carve out a "frame," about 1cm deep so that you have straight edges? (Should be doable with just the angle grinder).
And how do you cover the floor drain? Right now there's a soft plastic cap over it. I suspect it will give over time and cause the compound to crack.
Thinking maybe it's unnecessary to fill the entire drain in case you want to use it again. If nothing else, maybe the next owner will.
Can you put something like this over it?

Or will that also be too soft?
Attaching a picture of the floor, it's just a regular smoothed concrete slab. Unfortunately, there are too many things on the floor drain for me to get a picture of it right now...
