there are previous questions about plastering a brick fireplace, but I'm still asking a question + image here:
I'm planning to plaster the bricks on this fireplace, and everything should become white.
What type of mortar should be used?
Gypsum mortar? Will it work considering it might get somewhat warm on the front when burning?
Is a primer or other base needed, or can the plaster be applied directly to the brick?
(It is "outdoor brick," meaning the same type as the house's facade. A bit rough.)
In the instructional videos I've watched for plastering, a trowel is used for application, and the mortar should be pressed on from below and upwards. Does anyone have good tips on the technique for applying mortar to these areas near the floor and over the opening, since they are small areas where there's not really space to press plaster from below and upwards?
