We are going to retile the kitchen, all the way up to the ceiling. When I tore off the old tiles, a lot of plaster disappeared in some places. What material should I use to build up the wall again before I tile? See pictures.

Should I treat the painted wall with something before I tile on it? I have removed as much paint as possible but can't do much more. I'm thinking of roughening a bit, cleaning with paint cleaner, and then using some primer? Which one? I usually shop at Bauhaus... should I then apply the primer only on the paint or also on the "bare" plaster?

In the corner, it seems to be painted even at the bottom where the old tiles were, so I hope it will work to tile on the painted surface higher up as well. The old tiles were very well attached. Then again, I can't know for sure if it was painted everywhere under the tiles, but at least somewhere it was.

Apparently, gypsum board is not okay for a chimney. I don't understand how people on the forum get different answers depending on "their" chimney sweep. But in any case, it would probably become porous over time. Minerit has been read a bit differently about regarding tiles.

Kitchen wall with partially removed plaster and old tiles, revealing exposed brickwork. Light fixtures and a stovetop are visible. Close-up of a partially exposed brick kitchen wall with rough plaster remnants, showcasing surface texture in preparation for re-tiling.

Why start fiddling with your records? Polish up with putty what is missing.

Well, I'm mostly into it now after hesitating for a while :) IF it works on the color, which might become clear over time...

But that's why I have my questions now!

if you apply plaster where there is paint, it will get thicker. you want everything to be at the same height, not add more

I had sanded away all the lumps and polished up with c-bruk so it becomes smooth. Dampen as much as you dare before the polishing.

No, I'm not going to plaster on the paint. Just tile. I will plaster at the bottom. But should I still use some primer on the paint before tiling? And possibly also on bare plaster..?

you should check what the adhesive you will use requires.
usually, primer is recommended.
