Hmm, I can't quite agree. I find that installing decking screws is much smoother than installing drywall screws or chipboard screws in terms of how easily the bits start slipping in the groove. Although drywall screws don't slip as easily as chipboard screws in my experience, I think torx is completely superior in all situations. The quality of the screw naturally also plays a role.

I agree with useless here, it's evident if you try to screw, for example, a self-tapping screw without a drilling point through metal, the force you can apply is impossible with torx.

Ok, that makes sense. Thank you for clarifying. And especially on plasterboard, it's important that the screw is straight. However, it should work well with torx on chipboard screws. Still, most chipboard screws I've found are PH2.

The worst is the tinsmith's torx-like variant with eight slots instead of torx's six. It just sneers at you when you're standing there on the ladder with your torx bit. Even here, square bits fit.
