Where to find 50mm diameter dowel in Stockholm?
Where to find a dowel rod 50mm in diameter in Stockholm? 44mm is too small. It should be about 150 cm long.

Like the handle on a sledgehammer.
150cm long? How heavy is the sledgehammer head? It will be a very large and heavy sledgehammer.
A regular round rod in, for example, pine in such a dimension will not withstand hard hits. A round handle with a 50mm diameter will also be extremely difficult to grip - the handle should probably have smaller dimensions and be oval.

Yes, it should be a devil of a sledgehammer, the worst you can imagine. The handle can probably be reinforced without starting to cry from the effort. I have very large hands, so 50 might work, but I'm not sure. Oval is also the best, but I couldn't find anything like that. But maybe I should try with a 44mm.
44mm round dowel in pine will not withstand particularly hard blows. Do you already have a sledgehammer head? Are you going to drive stakes for a circus tent or what are you going to do? Often, you can manage quite well with a regular 4-6 kg sledgehammer.
I will manually hammer down the Öresund Bridge's wire fastenings into rock. The state couldn't afford machines.
I don't think it will hold either, I was thinking of using an iron pipe instead. For the grip, you can wrap the same tape used for floorball sticks, and maybe press it slightly oval in a vise. Thoughts?

Where can I find it? (more answers than "hardware store" please)
Available where? Just as you write: hardware store. I don't have more answers since I'm far from Stockholm. But according to Google with a search for sledgehammer handle, Fenixgruppen has handles in several different sizes. Täby Järn AB is one of the owners.bågfils-bert said:
Lundqvist Maskin & Verktyg seems to have it along with Beijer Bygg (that handle seems to be narrower).
