Sometimes there is a need for slightly better timber for various projects. It could be, for example, to build some furniture, build different jigs/templates for machine tools, etc.

Finer plywood or straight boards cost a fortune and are not always easy to find in regular hardware stores. Do you have any good tips or experiences?

Try to find a saw in your vicinity or alternatively place an order with your "real" building supplier. They can order cut, unplaned pine timber, for example.
If there's no rush with the timber, ask them to order when they have more orders from that supplier to get cheaper shipping.

Check with a carpentry if they can sell some fine wood or recommend a supplier.
