Hello!

I am going to replace a fence/plank. In our housing cooperative where I live in a townhouse, we have certain rules about how it must/should look, and I am now looking for posts in treated wood with the dimensions mentioned above.

The posts (rough-sawn treated wood) should be in the dimensions 80 x 140 mm or 80 x 130 mm and about 2100 mm long.

When I Google and check the websites of Beijer, Optimera, Bauhaus, and Byggmax, I find nothing (Hornbach is hopeless to call, and their website does not allow product searches).

Anyone have good tips on a building market/supplier in southern Skåne?

I live in Lund, so if it is nearby, that is of course a plus!

Have you tried at hjortens.se in Landskrona?

Although a wholesaler, you can buy through your nearest hardware store. Pick up yourself to avoid shipping.

That's not standard dimensions.
The closest you can get with standard, as far as I can see, is to screw together two 45x145.

Who wrote those rules? Someone who isn't aware of the readily available supply and has too few important problems to care about?

Thanks, I will check there!

I don't know, these are the dimensions that the existing fence posts have and it is pressure-treated wood... probably old, but still. I'll have a chat with them ;)

It would be reasonable to take the nearest standard dimension 95x95?

Those were strange dimensions... Have none of your neighbors replaced their fences? Take a walk around the area and check. Have a chat with them about how they've dealt with it. Otherwise, I would talk to the board and see if it's possible to make an exception to the (stupid) rule. If they can make an exception, ask to get it in writing.
Then I would propose a motion to the board to change that rule in the condominium association's statutes, so that others are not affected in the same way as you. There will be more people in your area who will want/need to replace fences. Good luck!

One option is to cut a larger dimension with a circular saw, electric planer, or table saw.

Thank you for all the thoughts and tips!

We (the board and I) resolved it by choosing the best possible alternative since the old "standard" (?) is no longer available. Some have made a few special solutions without "permission" and others have done the "best possible with the situation." The existing post shoes are adapted to a timber size of 80 mm, and that seems to have been the previous standard. However, I am not willing to replace the post shoes.
My solution: I've decided to use 45 x 145 mm and then build up with impregnated timber at the bottom by the post shoe so that the attachment is good. It won't be visible once the plants (Clematis) grow up :)

Now you have solved it anyway, but otherwise I was going to recommend PoG in Sandby...
I found a fitting panel in very odd dimensions for the house with them, so they have all sorts of things in their stash ;)

A tip for everyone who is part of various associations and societies is to have experts in Electrical, Plumbing, construction, law, etc., review the proposed bylaws before they are finalized.
