I am renovating the surface layers in the basement. I have a section with a whole row of holes through plaster, insulating straw into LättBetong where a lot of cold air is coming through.

I am tearing off the old fine plaster layer that the fabric wallpaper is cemented with and will apply a coarse plaster layer to even it out, then a new fine plaster layer to be painted.

Should I just fill the hole with coarse plaster, or first replace the insulation with silicone or foam sealant or something else? What would you do?

  • Close-up of a wall section with visible holes and straw-like insulation materials exposed beneath the plaster.
  • Wall section with multiple small holes, spotlighted in a basement under renovation. Upper area shows a yellow circular cover, potential for cold air entry.
Really wouldn’t have put silicone or anything else, just clean up the worst before you do the final touch-up.
