What should be used instead of drywall in the bathroom?
Nowadays, you can't use gypsum in bathrooms, so what should be used instead?
Are there any good alternatives and what do they cost and how do you build with them? (are they different from gypsum constructions?)
Heard something about Minerit...

Minerit VT, Masterboard, Aquapanel, and Ivarit are some examples of fiber cement boards. There are also some types of glass fiber gypsum, as well as cement-coated polystyrene boards (like Lux). The cheapest is probably the glass fiber gypsum, but it's a bit less pleasant to work with. The easiest to work with are the polystyrene boards, but they are also the most expensive. I usually go with Minerit VT or Masterboard.
This article appeared in the local newspaper some weeks ago, it is actually about entire buildings, but also mentions the possibility of constructing wet rooms using composite materials. What do people who know something about it think?

Don't know anything specific about what's in the article but I sincerely hope they don't follow the Japanese, but make sure it's possible to clad the composite with tiles and ceramics as we are used to. I've spent quite a bit of time at hotels in Japan and there it's not uncommon to use bare plastic modules to build bathrooms (and we're not talking about cheap hostels, but hotels of good quality like Hilton and LeMeridien). It feels like being in a small caravan without furnishings - not particularly pleasant, but effective to put up and certainly sensible from a water safety perspective.krukan said:
