What can you clad the eaves with?

I have re-roofed the house which partly consists of an old board-on-board roof but also laid new tongue and groove on an extension.

Now I am thinking of tidying up the eaves underneath so it becomes more uniform. The question is what standard materials are available to buy and install? My initial thought was something like tongue and groove, but my wife vetoed that, saying the "finish" wouldn't be OK. However, I do want some kind of grooved wood that looks a bit nicer. What is recommended for this? The only thing I see at the lumber yard when I look is really tongue and groove, and then it's rather different types of indoor paneling...

Buy raw wood planks, along with a brush and a can of paint for your wife.
The finish is something you have to fix yourself.
It could be an appropriate job for someone with specific requirements.
Maybe you could also give her some sandpaper and a sanding block

Personally, I think the raw wood planks are too fine nowadays.
There isn't a raw surface at all, so it should get a new name.

One option is to install z-panel (simple and stylish). Another option is regular sawn outdoor paneling with a bit of space between each board.

Personally, I think that "råspont" (unplaned wood panel) is actually too fine nowadays. There's no raw surface at all, so it should get a new name.

It resembles, in my opinion, more of a "slätspont" (smooth joint) nowadays.

Otherwise, "pärlspont" (beadboard) is an alternative for those who want something more "elegant" than a smooth surface.

Yes, in my little world, you place the net over the boards in the underlayment.

That way it's hardly visible.
Unless you're up in the attic, of course

Speaking of råspont.. what's ugly about it is maybe not the surface but that there are more or less large gaps where they don't fully come together. If there are any tips here, maybe it could be an option. Like gluing and clamping together a "kaka" and putting it up?

Wood moves, shrinks, and swells in width.

If you can't tolerate some gaps under the eaves, you'll have to use plywood instead. But who really looks up there anyway?
