What are the alternatives to tongue and groove boards

We are planning a roof replacement for a house with a gable roof. The current roof has an underlay of impregnated hardboard panels and concrete tiles. We are considering using tongue and groove boards with felt and new concrete tiles. One of the roofing companies we consulted suggests some type of membrane with Gore Tex-like properties instead of tongue and groove boards and felt. It is much cheaper, but will it be equivalent or better? Feels doubtful, does anyone have experience?

The new membranes have been tested and approved, I personally prefer the old-fashioned underlay paper and nailing with roofing nails. However, many companies prefer the membrane as it is quicker to lay, can be stapled, and weighs less, making it better from a work environment perspective. The cost is probably negligible as the membrane often costs more but is quicker to lay.

I did a job where the customer wanted to keep the masonite; it was completely dry, with no moisture damage. Only dusty, the spacing of the roof battens was correct. So it was very cost-effective for the customer. Of course, new metal details everywhere. The fabric is used very often in the assembly halls; the advantage is that it covers the roofs quickly with it.
