I am going to build a veranda roof and have hired a designer who has come up with a construction where the outer corners of the roof are supported by square profiles VKR 90x90x4. To avoid directing rainwater via downpipes on the outer edge, he suggests that the gutters be connected to the supporting beams, meaning the rainwater is channeled into these and flows out at the lower edge under the bridge. The aim is to achieve a more aesthetic solution.
My question is if there is a risk that the steel profiles will rust through and whether one should instead use stainless steel or aluminum for this type of construction. Is it possible to apply rust protection paint to both the inside and outside of the steel profiles? How long does rust protection paint last?
