Hello!
I have replaced the entire roof on the house, a 1.5-story villa (45 degrees). Ventilation up to the ridge and two side vents in the attic area. There is a 5cm air gap between the knee wall/underroof and the attic area. The underroof extends just under a meter from the house body.
The question now, as I'm about to nail up the underroof at the eaves, is how large an air gap should I have here?
I have essentially received three proposals as follows:
- Completely sealed underroof, set a vent in the gable on both sides of the knee wall.
- Sealed panel but with a 2 cm air gap at the outermost part (nearest the gutters), no gable vents.
- Sparse panel with about 1-2cm ventilation between each, totaling about 10cm of ventilation.
When reading about ventilation, everything seems to be moving towards less air exchange to avoid bringing in humid air, possibly working with mold stoppers instead. From this perspective, option 1 seems correct, but most seem to advocate for option 2.
Does anyone feel like they have a handle on this?
