I'm going to grout a tiled floor for the first time, but I forgot to buy a grout float. Is it okay to use a wider putty knife, or should I have a grout float?

Hi.

The reason to use a grout float is that it is made of silicone and doesn't damage the tiles when you drag it over them. I would recommend a trip to Biltema to buy one.

Regards, Alexander.

You can't really join with something that's hard at all...........

It is possible, but it means more to remove. The rubber scraper follows the irregularities better.

If you don't have a fogplatta, I would choose a suitable "träbit" over a filling knife.

Or you go and buy one.

A regular window scraper should work if it's hard to get hold of a proper one.

Make it simple, buy what you need, you will sweat anyway if it's your first time. For example, such a kit is a good idea. Complement with a rubber/window squeegee for the initial cleaning of the tiles.

And yes, you "must" have something with a soft edge, otherwise it will just be complicated and you'll have to work with the sponge unnecessarily much (risking discoloration as a result).

how do you work something into the joints if what you're doing it with is hard then? That's the whole point of proper tools anyway

Yes, I'll go and buy a grout float today.

...even the bucket with rollers is worth its weight in gold. It saves a lot of time.
