Received an order for a bathroom...
I have an old bathroom in the basement that needs a refresh, including full tiling.
The walls are made of hollow bricks, plastered and painted.
The plaster holds, but it's not smooth enough for tiling.
No visible moisture problems for 52 years, so we won't involve moisture barriers. The bathroom is 3m2 and will only be used sporadically.
How to even out the walls?
My plans for the upcoming weekends do not include hacking/scraping off plaster and paint to then replaster and align...
What do you think about the following:
1. Tear up the old plaster surface.
2. Apply primer and then some form of cement-based adhesive/fixing compound (tile adhesive?) with a coarse notched trowel.
3. Attach cement board or another wet room panel. (Without waterproofing)
Or tear down, prime, and then try to "spackle" with something? If so, what?
