Hello!

We live in a Gullringehus from 1969 and are now in the middle of renovating the house’s entrance/hall. We are ready to install the new floor, and I would need some advice before we proceed. In the choice of flooring, we opted for Pergo's vinyl flooring "optimum" as it seems to have the best durability. The underlayment foam we have purchased is also Pergo's own. When we decided on this type of flooring, we heard arguments like "it's easy to lay" and that it's forgiving of poor subfloors, etc. Now I've read a bit more and find arguments that it's exactly the opposite, that the floor demands a very even surface before installation. No seams or cracks larger than a millimeter, etc. What are your experiences? The floor is a chipboard floor that is on concrete slabs. We have removed all the loose remnants of the old carpet, but quite a bit remains. There are smaller gaps/seams. I have screwed down the floor, but some seams move slightly when you walk on them. Have I purchased an unsuitable floor for this project? It would be frustrating to lay an incredibly expensive floor that ends up being poor quality after a while :(
Attached are a couple of pictures of the existing floor.

  • Hallway floor showing old adhesive residues on a white chipboard, with a ladder leading down through an opening and a visible wooden chair in the background.
  • Existing subfloor with visible gaps and remnants of old flooring, with some loose pieces and seams before vinyl installation in home renovation project.
Hello. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to your question, but I'm very curious about the result and which color you chose. I'm thinking about installing flooring in the kitchen soon.
Best regards, Fredrik
