Hello,

I bought a paper tape for taping drywall joints. Without looking too closely, I noticed when I got home that they were quite narrow (max 5cm) compared to the width of the taper on the boards. Additionally, the tape has a crease in the middle (probably to make corners easier). Can I use this, or what should be used?

Another question, there's a lot of talk about how to tape seams but what do you use for the screws in the middle of the boards? Should you just apply joint compound directly over the screw?

Yes, just putty over them, there will usually be a few cm around when you're done.

Yes, you seem to have gotten the right strip. Attach it with putty, let it dry, and then putty over it again.

What you have is a paper strip. A tip is to soak it before you apply it, otherwise there's a risk of blisters. Personally, I usually use a CP-strip (cellulose plastic).
Much smoother.

Approximately 5 cm wide are the strips, that's correct.

Apply the compound thoroughly, and filled to at least half when you've finally leveled off a reasonably even surface on the compound. Press the strip with a long stroke of the putty knife so it's pressed firmly into the wet compound, you can stroke a bit extra later if it seems necessary.

Now you must not apply additional compound over this until it has dried, otherwise, it will form bubbles. If you haven't secured the strip properly, and it comes loose when it dries, it will also easily form bubbles.

When it has dried, you apply the rest of the compound, and if you're really skilled, I think you can get it done with this coat, but I've never managed yet without having to apply one or even two more layers sometimes. :blushing:

I've skim-coated screw heads, so they didn't need much sanding. But this isn't really good, especially if you paint, as it shows through. The correct way is probably to apply a "rose" of 5-10 cm in diameter and a few tenths of a millimeter thick after sanding.
Here, I would gladly welcome some opinion from a painting professional, which I am very far from being.

Yes, I would gladly see opinions on everything I wrote ... ;)

I have used regular sand compound for everything.
(In wet rooms, you're not allowed to use this, but on the other hand, you usually don't apply compound there at all.)
