I am working on a room that will have a loft on top of the ceiling. The loft will be used to store various items that don't need to be in a heated storage area, and there might be some heavier items as well...

I have some thoughts about how to build the joists for this.

Laying maybe 2 layers of 220mm joists on top of each other to get a 440mm build height is quite good for the thickness of the insulation, but perhaps not really necessary for the stability and definitely not good for my wallet.

I'm considering some type of truss of thinner joists instead; this would look like a ladder with a horizontal 45*95 at the bottom, short upright pieces of 45*95 with maybe cc 40 cm, and then a horizontal 45*95 on top. On both sides, masonite is screwed and glued, and in the gaps, 45mm insulation is filled.

On top of these "trusses" which I will place at cc 60 cm, a floor of rough paneling will be laid.

Will this be sufficient or will the ceiling become banana-shaped?
