What is the difference between tretex and asfabord? Shouldn't it be possible to use asfabord as a substitute for tretex on a small area? The price differs quite a bit...

Yes, try asking for asfaboard (which I'm trained with) and you'll get the response; we don't have that, at the building shop. It's called asfaltboard today, and it's basically like tretex but with asphalt as the binder. The boards are used on the outside of buildings as wind protection, = a good board. But using this indoors would probably create problems with odor, just a guess:rolleyes:

Okay. Anyone else who can confirm this with the smell?

The asfaboard definitely has a smell that is not entirely pleasant. As an alternative, there has been an environmentally friendlier option available for a few years called Isoplaat, which uses wax as a binder instead. It is completely odorless as well.

What are you going to use the Tretex for? I actually thought it was a material that was no longer used, but I was wrong about that.

I inserted a small piece of asphaltboard approximately 500*1500 mm behind the gypsum, and have never smelled anything.

I need about 3m2. Knocked out a closet. Plastered the walls inside but the side walls will get tretex. The reason is that the rest of the walls have it. I don't feel like replacing the side walls and re-framing them for plasterboard, so I plan to put tretex there as well.

Buy tretex.

It will be. 200kr per disc you have to put up with =) only 2 discs are needed.

To alleviate the sting in the wallet, I quote the book "Byggekologi" by Varis Bokalders:

"Asphalt board is wood fiber boards that are impregnated with bitumen. ....... Asphalt (bitumen) is a product from oil refining and should not be used indoors due to the risk of emissions of PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons).

Hehe, =)
