Looking for a tool used when you want to transfer the contours of something to a template. For example, if you want to profile cut a molding that should fit against something that is not a straight line or perfect circle. Suspect there is a ready-made tool for this purpose in hardware stores.

Does anyone know what the correct name for this tool might be?
 
Yes, it would work if it were in a slightly larger design. I’m going to profile saw a board approximately 2 m long that will rest against a mountain.
 
In that situation, attach the board parallel to the decking against the rock at the nearest spot and then take a stick that is as long as you have moved the board out and hold it against the rock, drawing with a pencil. Then simply saw along the mark.
