Hello!

I'm planning to start my first masonry project and need some info. The wall is a partition wall in the basement, about 170cm in length and 215cm in height. It should go from the exterior wall to the "hjärtvägg" or whatever it's called. The walls it connects to are also built with regular gray "betongsten" I believe it's called. The floor is concrete.

1. What kind of bricks should I use?
2. Which mortar do I need? I only find mortar and plaster mixes A, B, and C.
3. How do I anchor it to the ceiling (boarding), can I drive some nails there for the mortar to grip?
4. How about reinforcement, is it needed and how do you best do it, should it be anchored in the exterior walls?
5. Does the wall need any aftercare, like keeping it moist, etc.?
6. When can I plaster?

Thankful for any masonry tips!

Best regards, Andreas

1. This depends on whether you need to hang heavy items on the wall or if it is just a partition wall! Normally, Leca blocks 190mm would suffice.

2. You should use a mortar and plaster with quality B.
3. Not necessary as one would want.
4. Drill some reinforcement bars into each wall to reinforce the wall along with reinforcement bars in a couple of courses.
5. No
6. The day after you have finished the masonry, feel free to use red primer (serpo) or base coat (finja) before you start plastering as it adheres and holds much better then!

Also, use a plaster KC-c for the actual plastering part!

The answer above said most of it, but I can add one thing. If you're a beginner, you should choose KC-bruk, not murcement (gullex). KC-bruk consists of lime and cement, while murcement consists of ordinary Portland cement with a little ground limestone to make it smoother. However, KC is much smoother and easier to work with.
