Time required for plastering 28 sqm interior wall
Hello.
We have received a time estimate from a craftsman to fix an interior wall made of concrete hollow blocks. The total wall area is about 30 sqm, which includes a smaller basement window and a standard-sized door.
The tasks to be done are:
- Knock down remaining plaster layer, about 11 sqm.
- Disconnect electrical outlets and switches
- Apply primer
- Attach plaster mesh
- Base plaster (Red base) (Hand plaster)
- Install plaster guides and corner profiles/protection
- Finish plastering (C plaster) (Hand plaster)
- Smooth the plaster surface
- Reattach outlets and switches.
What is a reasonable estimated work time for this?
We have been told about 60 hours. I am not an expert on plastering, but when I watch videos and the like, I definitely get that feeling: "That must go quickly."
The craftsman is relatively experienced with plastering.
Thank you in advance!

Without knowing how to plaster, I had calculated like this.
- Prepare1: Buy plaster and haul everything there? 2h
- Prepare2: Haul over tombola/tools, protect with wooden boards, bring out electricity/water, large bags/plastic bags/container? etc. 3h
- Prepare3: Take down electrical outlets, knock down plaster and clean. 8h
- Work: Mix primer and apply. 3h
- Plaster mesh: No idea but 12x2.5m=30sqm is quite a lot 8h?
- Plaster guides and corner protection 3h
- Plastering: 16h
- Restore + rough cleaning 4h
=> 58h
If you think it can be done faster, take it by the hour instead and be there to "help out" to shorten it as much as possible.

Prepare 1 & 2 is completed from before.
Prepare 3 is questionable. Another craftsman from the same company knocked down about 35 sqm of plaster and even a straw/plaster ceiling in just over 9 hours. So the 11 sqm remaining in this case should go faster?
If I interpret their answer correctly, they will be spending significantly more than 16 hours on the actual plastering.
We are already using a running account.
A follow-up question is whether the result will be better and/or performed faster by using metal plaster rails instead of regular wooden laths?

It will be very exciting to get the time report for this week.
With the caveat that the craftsman has had to go to another project/customer on a few occasions, unclear for how long, this is how far they've come from Monday at 10 AM to today, Friday at 12 PM (they charge for 10.5 hours per day):
Removed 4 disassembled "shelves" (shelf boards and metal brackets) through a window at chest height.
Chipped away ~11 sqm of fairly loosely adhering plaster by hand with a hammer.
Cleaned up fallen plaster.
Loosened an electrical outlet, a switch, and about 6 meters of electrical cable.
Painted plaster primer with a brush on 20 sqm of concrete block and attached about 20 sqm of plaster mesh.
Had the craftsman worked on this 100% of the time, the hours would have amounted to 44 hours...

After having an entire house plastered, it aligns pretty well with just under 2 hours per sqm. Typically 1.5 - 2 hours per sqm.
In my case, it was the closing of milled tracks for electricity, base plastering, corner profiles, fiberglass mesh, and then surface plastering. High ceiling height in a large part of the house, which naturally makes it a bit more difficult. On the other hand, very large open spaces. Primer was not needed as my brick surface is very good for plastering. Over 200 square meters of floor space got plastered walls. Pictures are available in my project thread.JohanOeberg said:
Did they fill the track with something special? In my case, it was filled with the same base plaster as the rest of the wall.
