I put a row of tiles under the sink level behind the stove. But the tiles keep sliding downward. I used tacks under the tiles in the plaster. Is there a smarter way? I also want to place tiles on the far right against the corner behind the wood stove.

Tiled wall with round opening covered in plastic, above a rough plaster surface, showing installation work with nails visibly used for support.

Gypsum plaster? Don't you use fix? Mix it thicker and they'll stick. Why are you placing it under the countertop?

Yes, of course, I have adhesive. :-)
The substrate is plaster that the nails attached to.
I want at least one row of tiles going down behind the stove, which will be below the countertop level.
There will then be a few centimeters of visible chimney to the right of the wood stove towards the corner, which I would also like to tile.

Today on the home stretch it wasn't as difficult to keep the tiles from sliding down. Didn't need to nail them in place.
I guess that's how it is for us amateurs, sometimes it works and we don't really know why...

Wall with newly installed white tiles, some unevenly placed. A red laser line guides alignment. A round covered opening can be seen on the left.
