I am going to build a wardrobe between two rooms. As I don't want to take more space than necessary with the wall, I would like tips on how the wall can be built.

As you can see in the picture below, I will use Ikea wardrobes against the large bedroom. Against the other side, I will build a wall. Is it possible to frame the wall with a horizontal stud at the bottom (cutting out a bit from the wardrobe's base) and place a stud above the wardrobe? This way, the wall is only attached at the top and bottom. Perhaps it can also be attached with screws to the edges of the wardrobes?

Grateful for any help.

  • Ikea wardrobes with clothes and folded items in a room, showing drawers and shelves for storage against a wooden floor and a purple wall background.
  • Floor plan showing two bedrooms with measurements, separated by a narrow closet space. Plan includes potential wall placement and doorway positions.

Build the wall with 45*45 studs, insulate, gypsum, and done. The alternative is to also install OSB panels so you can attach wardrobes, etc., wherever you want.
Doesn't it seem pointless to build the wardrobe in? You might gain 5-10cm at most.

I recommend this post among others from @Ramnemark when it comes to sharing a room with wardrobes and seeing how little it can build. Then whether they face the same or different directions is just a matter of taste.

P.s. Be careful about starting to read that thread. Highly addictive and as long as a spring rain. :D

Thanks
I've followed that thread off and on for a long time. However, I had missed this.
