I don't think the staircase is nice. But I respect others' design ideals and taste is like the butt, and the thread is not about aesthetics but about glue.

But when ts talks about flex in the steps, can there really be flex before they break?

Technically, due to the construction, it's only a matter of time before the steps break if they are subjected to normal load. But as mentioned, this thread is not about that but about glue.
