Hey. After tearing down the interior wall in my basement recreation room, I've discovered that the mortar in an area of several meters has crumbled and turned into something more akin to sand.

Poor drainage and a wall where insulation was directly against the outer wall preventing ventilation is likely the culprit, I assume.

I will have a company handle the drainage, but what should be done about the deteriorated mortar? Whether a company does it or if I can do something myself, it would be good to get some tips on how to proceed with this.

Crumbling basement wall with exposed bricks and debris on the floor, indicating damage possibly due to poor drainage and lack of ventilation.

Scrape out as much of the loose material as possible, and then insert new mortar.

Okay. That was the same thought I had myself but nice to hear it from someone else as well.
