In our kitchen, we cut open the inner ceiling (approx. 1x0.5m) to inspect something.

The vapor barrier plastic has been replaced, but the craftsmen chose not to close the entire hole with particle board. (see image). It's right above where the fridge and freezer will be.

Is this something I should mention that they should fix from a functional perspective? Aesthetically, it doesn't matter since it's hidden by the kitchen.

The chipboard is just a mechanical protection. If there are cabinets that fulfill that function, they work just as well.
