Hello!
I'll try to explain a little problem I have...:S. It's like this, I bought a house a few months ago, and have now settled in, so I tried using my fireplace the other day.
Before I lit a fire for the first time, there was a small crack between the front itself and the mortar (or whatever you call it??), but now I've lit a fire a few times, and it's coming apart more and more. The problem is not that smoke comes in, but too much oxygen comes in and my logs burn up quickly. Now I wonder how I can fix this problem in the simplest way.

I would prefer not to have to take everything apart, can you apply some good clay, mortar around it?? Or can I, as I would like, drill holes and insert some type of expansion bolt, like (http://www.byggmax.com/se-sv/Prod/PID-24134.aspx), what do you think? or do you have any other suggestions?? thankful for all answers!

Attaching three pictures here, please look at the pictures, they probably speak for themselves!! Hope the pictures can give you some good idea, thankful for all help //Johann

  • A brass-fronted fireplace with four glass doors set in a rendered surround, showing cracks between the front and the plaster.
  • Close-up of a crack between a fireplace front and the surrounding wall, showing separation possibly causing excessive air intake during use.
  • Crack in the mortar joint between the fireplace front and wall, with a hand pointing at the gap.
