Temporary hallway - flooring tips?
The existing floor is nice, so most options will naturally feel dull. I imagine Masonite boards are obviously out of the question. A cheap laminate floor could work but takes time to install.
I would probably prioritize making it easy for myself while achieving the necessary functionality: I would remove the quarter-round molding, purchase needle-felt carpet/entrance mat by the meter, and then remount the quarter-round molding. A big advantage is that gravel and other debris get trapped in the mat.

But won't it get wet? I don't think that would be good for the floor?H Huzzbutt said:The existing floor is nice, so most options would of course be boring. I imagine Masonite sheets are out of the question. A cheap laminate floor might work but takes time to install.

The important thing is probably that the floor can breathe; if the room is kept dry otherwise, there shouldn't be any problems during such a short period. Even completely non-breathable materials damage floors by not allowing moisture to escape.david__ said:
