have a big question, soon going to tear down a wall (load-bearing) to make an opening of about 3.5 m. It currently has vertically fitted timber in the walls, with a square frame, meaning a square at the top and bottom and paneling in between. There is another floor above.
How does one calculate the weight/suitable material to reinforce with steel, laminated timber, wood?
It should be as efficient as possible, any suggestions?

hasn't anyone torn down a load-bearing wall?
