I will remove the section between the two doors to open up the room more, as you can see in the picture. I live in an apartment in a multi-family house and all the interior walls are made of gypsum, so it should be quite simple. However, I’m not a professional, so I need some advice.

What tools should I use? In the bathroom, which is under renovation, we noticed that there are steel studs in the walls. Can I expect there to be two steel studs between the doors where the door frames are attached, or should they be wood instead?

I don't think there’s any wiring in the section between the doors since the outlets are located next to the doors.

  • Two open doors with a section of wall between them in an apartment. The wall is planned for removal to open up the room.
Crowbar, screwdriver, and multi-tool, and you can get the job done.

Start by removing the doors, then the casing. Unscrew the frames, then you will see what they were attached to. If it is frame screws, you will need a special tool to unscrew them. Then just saw off the plaster between the doors on both sides and break the plaster loose. Then you need to remove the stud that is there, and if it becomes unsteady, you might need to reinforce with a new stud across the entire width.

Ok, thanks for the answer! But what tool is needed to unscrew karmskruv?
Would it work to saw out the wall with a reciprocating saw or do you need a more powerful machine?

Is it just the small piece that should be removed? And how should it look afterwards?

Just demolishing is no problem, you could probably tear down that wall with just a crowbar, but it should preferably be demolished neatly enough to make it easy to rebuild later.

Jula has a cheap reciprocating saw, which seems to be very affordable.

Yes, it's just the small piece between the doors that needs to be removed. We might install sliding doors there eventually, but that is further down the line.

You are writing about an apartment building, I hope it's not a rental.

Condominium, of course!
