Good evening!

My partner and I have moved into a 1.5-story house built in '74. We are now moving the kitchen to the living room and later adding 40m2.
Now we need to remove an old wood-burning stove.
I have avoided this before, but now it is unavoidable.

Now to the question.
Does anyone have tips/tricks that made the removal of the chimney easier?

From what I can see, it's an iron pipe, about 150mm, going up through the upper floor and up to the chimney which is 1m above the ridge. The house is about 5m high. So this pipe is about 5-6m and will probably be insanely heavy.

Does anyone have experiences with this that could be helpful?

I have tried looking on Google but didn't find much useful.

Thank you in advance.

  • Old chimney pipe with metal and fiberglass insulation, part of a home renovation project. Rusty, surrounded by hardware mesh, inside a house.
Saw into pieces, drop down gradually?
Four cuts are not that bad.

Start from the top. Maybe easier said than done, but you will have to divide it anyhow to get it out, so try tackling it upstairs first, and it will become more manageable weights.

Hi! It's been a while since you posted this, but how did it go? I have also tried googling, but I'm not getting very far with it either. We have also bought a 1.5-story villa, from '64, and we have a wood-burning stove in the basement that needs to be removed. It also creates two strange shafts that take up unnecessary space both in the living room and the large bedroom. Don't know what it looks like in there (we haven't moved in yet), but we hope to be able to remove them at the same time.
Hope it went well for you!
