Hi!

We are planning to take down a wall in our apartment and have now received permission to do so. The wall is made of some form of lightweight concrete, and the idea is to use a reciprocating saw to simply cut away piece by piece. However, I have no experience with this and therefore wonder if anyone can provide tips on what to consider?

Do you need special blades adapted for cutting concrete? If so, what?

I gratefully accept any tips I can get.

Best regards // Jan

Buy a coarse one for demolition. Large teeth. Or borrow/buy a sledgehammer and knock it down :) (very dusty. but great fun!)

It works with almost any blade. However, regular coarse blades intended for wood will become useless for wood sawing. If you buy a blade with carbide tips (available at places like Bauhaus for a couple of hundred kronor), you'll be able to cut through the wall as if it were butter.

Prepare for a terrible amount of dust if you use a reciprocating saw. Consider whether you should use a regular handsaw (or a handsaw with carbide tips) if the wall is short.

There were two men, one holding the vacuum cleaner and the other with the tigersåg, and take it easy and methodically so it doesn't create too much dust. As Mathias wrote, you can use any blade, until you come across a rebar, then you have to insert a fresh blade and saw through the metal. The mortar is also usually a bit difficult to saw through with regular blades.

I can add that I have sawed tens of meters in lightweight concrete/siporex and exclusively used a regular handsaw + hacksaw for the reinforcement. It is therefore a method that works well without wearing yourself out. Today, however, I have a nice reciprocating saw and would probably use it, though with some consideration due to all the dust.

Thank you for your tips. I ended up sawing by hand this time and it went well overall.
A bit time-consuming but less dust :)
Bought a lightweight concrete saw at Jula for 99:- which definitely did as promised.
