Hello!

As usual, all "simple" renovations tend to get out of hand. :)

We are planning to install a pair of French doors leading out to our patio according to the blue masking, which is a total of 160cm wide.

The house has 2 floors and was built in 1934. It looks like we will need to cut through 3 vertical studs, and the wall is on the long side/ground floor.

I wonder how I should go about cutting the opening and reinforcing above this door?

Wooden interior wall marked with blue tape for new French doors installation, next to existing glass door and radiator, in a two-story 1934 house.

Outdoor patio with wicker sofa, glass table, wall-mounted shelf, lantern, and sliding glass doors leading to yard.

Yellow two-story house with balcony, potential location for installing window doors to the terrace, in snowy winter landscape, sunlight casting shadows.

The first tip is to call a constructor and calculate the correct size of the glulam beam or steel beam.

If you ask me, I absolutely believe that a 66 x 315 glulam beam is sufficient for relief. I am not a constructor and have not calculated it, so if you do as I say and the house collapses, it is not my fault :).

If you ask me, I absolutely think that a 66 x 315 glulam beam would be sufficient as a support. I'm not a constructor and haven't calculated it, so if you do as I say and the house collapses, it’s not my fault :).
66x315 Sounds incredibly excessive for 160cm.(?)

Someone must have done something similar, I think? :)

Edit: Pelpet, you seem to be absolutely right, found some PDFs and calculation programs, and according to the calculations, it should be 66x315 or 90x225.
I think it will be the latter.
Unless it's simply okay to use 2 glued and screwed 45x225?

If you get hold of knot-free or small knots, 2 pieces of 45x225 work. Glue is not necessary.
