I am in the process of excavating the crawl space of the kitchen, which is 4x5 meters, and I will be casting a new footing on sides 1, 2, and 3, as well as replacing sill beams on walls 1, 2, and 3.
Next week, a suction truck will come and remove the soil, and before that, I thought about setting up some supports. I don't want to cut through walls and stick beams through as some have suggested; instead, my idea was to place two supports in each window in the kitchen, as my nice figure shows (I have also placed a support that goes from the granite to a load-bearing stud straight through the kitchen). So one post inside and one outside the window, with a beam resting on these. Is this a good idea, you think?
My thought is that these should relieve the most pressure and reduce the risk of anything collapsing when the foundation is excavated, as well as allowing the sill beams to be freed with less lifting assistance.
I haven't really considered the dimensions of these much yet but thought I would spontaneously overdo it to be on the safe side... slap together a bunch of studs... or something.
Wall no. 3 and half wall no. 2 are by the way standing on rock so there should be no further excavation there. It is, however, wall no. 1 that will be excavated 1.5-2 meters down beside the foundation stones so the pressure must be released well there.
