Earlier this fall, I removed some walls. The carpenters were so clever that they hung them on wooden beams, next to the open fireplace...
Now I'm going to replace this with steel and I'm wondering if I can do it as follows.
In the first picture, it's the current construction. I'm thinking of cutting off just enough of the wood that goes against the firewall, then putting in a square tube so there's something between the wood and the firewall. On this square tube, I have welded a shelf at a suitable height for the wall to sit on. I might also add a flat bar outward to create more surface area. It will be bolted into the wall and floor.
Would this work?
In the third picture, it currently looks the same, just with a lot of wood instead of a more streamlined beam. Here, there is also no firewall. Just a supporting wall.
Remove the wood, put in a square tube that stands on the floor with a plate and is bolted to the wall. Then I weld a type of beam shoe so it's attached to the wood as well.
Will my house remain standing with these solutions?
