Hi, we have renovated our kitchen and will have a fairly large and heavy kitchen island. It is estimated to weigh about 500 kg. We have a crawl space and will build support underneath, can I use pressure-treated mtrl? How do I build in the smartest way?
I also have a crawl space and am planning to build a kitchen island. Spontaneously, it is perhaps not the space underneath (crawl space) that determines if the joists hold, but rather the primary factor is the dimension of the joists in relation to the span.
If I find that my joists need reinforcing, I won't use treated timber. Why would you do that? If you have that much moisture in the basement, it should be addressed regardless of the kitchen island.
I might reinforce the joists under the bathroom. I will do this with a beam that goes across under the joists. I'll cast concrete footings with adjustable post shoes and tension the beam (45x195) up against the joists. My bathroom is 2x2.2 meters wide, and I will place 3 footings. If I place the cross beam in the middle of the bathroom, I halve the span to 1.10 meters.
Different measurements in my current solution, but you understand the principle.
Thank you for your response.
Have had slightly elevated moisture levels but will install a dehumidifier.
Was a bit unsure about impregnated mtrl. But will not use it!
Borrowing your idea with casting and adjustable post shoes.
