I am sanding old glue from a concrete floor and it stinks a lot and causes coughing, so I am using an ABEK gas filter that is a couple of years old (it has been in a plastic bag but opened). I felt it "let through" a bit and I still had minor coughs but much less than without, so I went and bought a new one and now I don't cough at all, so obviously it lost its "effect", the old one...

How long can you actually use it?
The old one hadn't been used much, I used it for some mold treatment I sprayed on the floor earlier for maybe two to three hours...

Does the glue produce gases? If only dust is filtered, the filter will never wear out or lose its filtering ability. However, it might become a bit heavy to breathe after a while... Pure gas filters with activated carbon can usually be weighed with an accurate scale to see how much the active substance has reacted with. The original weight should be indicated on the filter. The carbon reacts with substances in the air, so an opened filter that has been lying around for a few years might very well be spent.

Yes, gases from the glue... Uninsulated slab on the ground that has had glued vinyl flooring since 1985... It's called saponification...

Hi Anders. How did it go with your saponified floor adhesive? We have the same issue in the bathroom of the summer cottage we bought last year. We've torn out the flooring and sanded away all the glue and filler, but the smell is still strong. Googling myself crazy on different moisture barriers and sealing fabrics. Corner of a room with removed flooring, showing remaining adhesive residue and exposed subfloor. Tools and green carpet removed partially.

I sanded down 2-3 millimeters and treated with Florosil

I have read about that, but haven't been able to find retailers. Are you satisfied with the result? Have you laid tiles since then?
