Closed off an old doorway with renovation plasterboard many years ago. Now the wife wants a TV and TV stand up, of course, right over the old opening.

Will it hold to use molly screws in renovation plasterboard? The TV stand should be fine as it has multiple anchor points in the concrete, but the TV mount might end up right over the doorway ☹️

Are there any alternatives other than tearing down the opening and putting in a regular plasterboard?

A stud across the opening, well anchored in the wall.

If you are going to tear down, I think you should put plywood under the drywall, having to use "Molly" every time you want to attach something to a wall is a bit tedious.

Even renovation plasterboard is screwed into a stud, just mount the TV holder in that. There are swivel brackets that are screwed into a vertical stud and it works.
