I am going to replace the ceiling in the basement of our gullringshus from 1968. When I removed the sub-ceiling, I found these holes in the ceiling. There's also some discoloration around them. Could there have been some moisture damage or similar that has aired out? What other function could the holes have had? We are the second owners and bought the house nearly 3 years ago. So, I had the impression that the sub-ceiling had been up for close to 50 years. Attached is a picture of how the sub-ceiling looked as well.
No pipes. Only insulation behind. So the question is how much function has it served? On the other hand, 9 holes.
But if I remove the entire ceiling and install spaced paneling and a new ceiling, it should vent about the same amount?
Hopefully, it is already aired out and dry. What is on the upper floor? Is there a balcony or door directly above, or another opening in the exterior wall?

It feels dry and doesn't smell, so I think so too. Above, there is a bedroom with both a window and a balcony door out. The window is directly above, and the door is 1m to the right when viewed from inside.
Then I THINK it's moisture that has entered because of that. I have experienced the same thing, though it was between the floors and we dried it out without making a hole (tore everything down).
