Hello everyone!
We have bought an old functionalist villa that needs to be renovated internally. We want to keep the facade and not make any extensions, but the interior renovation makes me uncertain.
We have had to reduce the size of the living room to create an extra room. The living room, which has a fireplace, feels too small to have a TV next to the fireplace, so we're thinking of placing it above the fireplace.
My 2 questions are:
1) Americans have TVs above fireplaces, so it's possible, but I'm wondering what rules there are to follow? The fireplace extends 500mm into the room, so the idea was to continue building up a wall where the TV could go and be further protected by the gap in between... does anyone understand what I mean?
2) Would a stone wall clash with the functionalist villa? Is it breaking the period-typical feel, and can you do it anyway without it looking wrong?
I somewhat think that a traditional appearance doesn't necessarily mean a traditional interior..?
