Hello! I've been thinking for a while about building new inner walls in the basement against the concrete wall. They were here before, but the previous owners had placed wooden studs and insulation directly on the concrete. So it had to be removed.

In any case, I've read a bit about steel studs. Doesn’t seem too complicated or expensive. Has anyone done this themselves in a basement? Anything I need to consider? By the way, I’m not going to insulate, just put up drywall.

Also attaching some pictures.

  • Basement wall with reddish plaster, showing patchy white spots where previous wooden studs and insulation were attached. Ceiling has wooden panels and spotlight.
  • Basement wall with removed drywall, exposing concrete; radiator and windows above with potted plants. Preparing for steel stud and drywall installation.
  • Basement wall with marks and cable box, old plaster patches, wooden ceiling visible.
It's not mold growth in the last picture? It's a bit hard to see. But to be safe, spray Klorin before the new wall goes up.
Steel studs are a terribly nice invention.

The gray? No, it's plaster

aha ok.

Now, I am the wrong person to give advice, but I have gathered from reading that it is important for air to be able to flow behind the wall.

I believe there is an exactly similar question as yours where the BH-panel has answered.

Get a rivet gun to make it easier to fasten the steel studs together. If you think there might be moisture against the basement wall, I would use plastic behind the plasterboard and create an air gap.

Thank you so much! But you only had steel studs in the ceiling and floor, then wood studs? Does that work?

I would not have used wooden studs, but gone with steel the whole way.

Well-drained and about 5 cm away from the wall. Got help from an acquaintance who works with moisture and water damage ✌
